This piece is decorated with scrolling lotus blossoms, turquoise foliage, and figural reserves depicting courtly scholars and attendants in detailed garden scenes. The lid centers on a group of wise men under a pine tree, symbolizing longevity and knowledge. The outer walls continue with alternating panels of floral scrolls and figures in traditional robes.
On the underside is a six-character Tongzhi mark in red enamel—apocryphal, as is typical of the period—paying homage to the Qing emperor (1862–1874). Based on its decoration, weight, and enamel quality, this covered box is most likely from the Republic period (early 20th century).
Perfect as a statement centerpiece on a console or sideboard, or as an elegant storage box for treasured items.
