The Story

There are vintage paintings that simply decorate a wall—and then there are pieces that establish the entire room.

This extraordinary oversized floral, signed Gregory C., is the latter. Measuring an impressive 50 inches wide by 40 inches high, the composition fills the canvas with enormous blossoms rendered in soft blush, creamy ivory, powder blue and muted violet against a dramatic near-black ground.

What makes the work particularly compelling is its remarkable dimensional surface. The flowers are not merely painted; their petals have been built up with substantial texture, creating softly sculptural edges and visible movement across the composition. The blue and blue-green foliage is similarly worked, with hand-incised veining and layered surface detail that becomes especially apparent when viewed from an angle.

The result feels somewhere between painting and relief sculpture.

Its palette is wonderfully characteristic of sophisticated late-20th-century interiors, yet feels remarkably relevant today: romantic without becoming saccharine, dramatic without becoming dark, and large enough to anchor a room entirely on its own.

Presented in its slim polished brass-tone frame with a generous ivory surround and narrow gold inner border, the artwork retains a beautifully finished period presentation.

The identity of the artist behind the Gregory C. signature has not been conclusively established, so we have intentionally retained the signature exactly as it appears rather than assigning an unsupported full-name attribution.
