Vintage Villeroy & Boch Acapulco Luncheon Plates & Cups 13 Piece Set

An extraordinary vintage Villeroy & Boch Acapulco luncheon and coffee set, featuring one of the most iconic and exuberant tableware designs of the late twentieth century.

Created in 1967 by designer Christine Reuter, the Acapulco pattern was inspired by an original Mexican design and became celebrated for its fantastical birds, oversized flowers, lush foliage, and brilliant saturated color. Turquoise blue, cobalt, violet, coral orange, sunny yellow, pink, and vivid green are outlined in graphic black against warm ivory porcelain, creating a wonderfully joyful composition with unmistakable Mid-Century Modern and 1970s appeal.

This collection is from the desirable older Milano shape, produced by Villeroy & Boch in Luxembourg. The 9.5-inch plates are the luncheon plate form, accompanied here by six coordinating handled coffee or tea cups.

The set includes seven luncheon plates and six cups, providing a complete service for six with an additional plate.

Each piece carries the wonderfully theatrical Acapulco decoration, with stylized tropical birds and flowers wrapping around the plates and cups. The result is tableware that feels almost like functional pop art — playful, sophisticated, collectible, and immediately recognizable.

The underside bears the classic blue Villeroy & Boch backstamp reading “Acapulco,” “Made in Luxembourg,” and “D'après un dessin original mexicain,” referring to the original Mexican design that inspired the pattern.
