The Story

Pure glamour with a wonderfully theatrical edge. This extraordinary vintage lion is less a traditional trinket box than a piece of oversized statement jewelry for the home.

Measuring nearly five inches long, the reclining lion is lavishly covered in a field of sparkling clear pavé rhinestones, contrasted by a sculptural gold-tone head, mane, paws, and tail. Brilliant emerald-green jeweled eyes give his expression an almost regal intensity. Even the open mouth is carefully modeled, with tiny teeth and dimensional detailing that reward a closer look.

The entire lion opens along the body to reveal a hidden gilt interior compartment, secured with a hinged construction and magnetic closure. Closed, the seam nearly disappears beneath the dense crystal surface, allowing the piece to read first as a glittering sculptural object.

Research into comparable pieces suggests a circa 1980s–1990s date. We have not identified a maker's mark, so we are intentionally leaving the maker unattributed.
